February 2023 will see the team behind acclaimed Southwark restaurant Bala Baya launch their new flagship restaurant at llona Rose House, an exciting new development in the heart of Soho. This new space, named Kapara, will be the second stand-alone project from Israeli-born chef Eran Tibi and will take inspiration from the sights and sounds of Tel Aviv’s rooftop bars and the sun-bleached streets of the city’s artistic neighbourhood Neve Tzedek. Influenced by the hedonistic attitude of modern Tel Aviv, the restaurant’s ‘all welcome’ and ‘anything goes’ ethos will see an all-day – all night offering accompanied by a debaucherous soundtrack and a must-visit subterranean chef’s table experience.
Affectionately called Kapara – Hebrew slang for ‘darling’ – the new site will offer elevated Israeli-inspired dishes which capture the unique, sun-kissed free spirit of Tel Aviv’s beautiful courtyards, with elements of LA, Ibiza and Miami hospitality. The space, housed in one of Soho’s most inspiring new neighbourhoods, will comprise an alfresco terrace, a lounge and bar area and a main ground floor restaurant with a raised stage for live music and performances. Designed by Raven Collective, the interiors celebrate Tel Aviv’s eclecticism with sweeping curved booths, luscious planting, brass accents and rich textures, providing guests a truly sensory experience which perfectly compliments the menu.
Kapara will also boast a destination basement level space – the jewel in its crown – which will encompass a luxurious dining room and six-seater counter, all of which can be transformed into a private dining area complete with a personal ‘serve yourself’ bar, a full PA system and multiple bespoke entertainment options. Inspired by Eran’s Grandad’s ‘Naughty Corner’ as a child, the subterranean space is set to become a destination in its own right, transforming into a chef’s table dining experience at the pass for maximum intimacy. With many areas to experience and explore, Kapara caters for any occasion – from small gatherings with friends and family to extravagant parties.
The menu has been personally created and developed by Eran Tibi, who takes inspiration from his mother’s Middle Eastern home cooking and generations of baking expertise. Focusing on the enjoyment of fresh, sustainably sourced ingredients, Kapara will serve colourful dishes from lunch till late alongside a weekend brunch menu.
Titled Amuse, the menu begins with an array of starters including a warming selection of freshly baked breads, including the Bala Baya pitta, Moroccan bun and Jaffa seeded onion bagel with herb butter. Signature main dishes will include Abandoned at Sea, a nose-to-tail dish making fare from otherwise wasted ingredients from the ocean, consisting of white corn crispy cod chops, squid ink yolk pasta, coconut and harissa bisque; the Quince of Hearts, a celeriac fondant, ox heart tartare, olive caviar, spiced quince, cured quail egg with a turmeric and mustard aioli, and the Winter Ceviche, Mediterranean Grouper, Granny Smith Tiger’s milk pickled radish, apple blossom, tempura shiso and apple. Titled Sweet Endings, showstopping desserts will include the Cigar Break, featuring tahini rose pistachio ice cream, brick and coco cone, smoke twill with saffron and passion fruit curd. The drinks programme will include an award-winning selection of Israeli wines and a special “Gazoz” menu infusing soda, botanical herbs and fresh exotic fruits.
Alongside top-class cooking and cocktails, within the new Ilona House development guests can expect collaborations from global leaders in the worlds of fashion, food and music. With London’s eclectic Soho as its backdrop, Kapara will be a hub of hedonism in the heart of London.
Kapara will open in February 2023.
